It may be turkey week, but we’re still swooning over burgers. Earlier this week (thanks to Yelp) we visited Smashburger to taste some of the newest burgers in town. The Denver based company is bringing their concept to Orlando with a menu created with regional flavors and tastes in mind.

Smashburger’s secret is in the burger smash, they start with 100-percent—fresh, never frozen, all-natural Certified Angus Beef and the beef is smashed on a 400 degree flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor. Beyond burgers, they also serve up grilled and crispy sandwiches, gargantuan salads and a variety of other sides including rosemary and garlic Smashfries.

During our burger feast of 2015 we sampled several burgers, a variety of sides and a handful of shakes. Here’s our Smashburger menu picks!

  • Classic Smash: American cheese, Smash Sauce, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion on and egg bun. An exceptional fluffy, fresh bun stuffed with high quality beef and crunchy, fresh veggies. You can hear the lettuce crunch as you take that first bite, followed by a flavor blend of Smash Sauce ketchup and juicy beef. If you’re going to call yourself a burger joint, your classic burger should be exceptional, and it was.
  • Buffalo & Blue Cheese Crispy Chicken: The crispy chicken sandwich is composed of Frank’s Redhot Buffalo Sauce, blue cheese crumbles, lettuce, tomato and mayo on an egg bun. The crispy chicken is pounded out flat and covered with all my favorite toppings. Ask for extra hot sauce if you like it super spicy!
  • Smashfries: Skinny steaming hot fries tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary and garlic. Mmm there’s nothing better than piping hot fries, served fresh with your burger. These seasoned fries were covered in just the right amount of flavor to be interesting, but not overpowering. Put away the ketchup, you won’t need anything extra for these tasties!
  • Fried Pickles: Smashburger, you must know the way to my heart. Lightly breaded, delightfully crunchy and served with a creamy dipping sauce. The pickles were a little on the salty side, which I love, you just probably want to share this abundant portion of pickles with a friend.
  • Haystack Onions: Sometimes onion rings are too thick, greasy and the breading falls off the onion while you’re taking a bite. But these tasty onions are lightly battered, curly and served with a tangy dipping sauce. More please!

Smashburger opens today at 3162 East Colonial Drive and next Wednesday at 334 N. Alafaya Trail. http://smashburger.com/
