It’s hot, down pouring, or you’re just feeling plain lazy, but you still want something besides cereal for dinner. So what’s a gal to do? Download OrderUp, an on-demand delivery app and online platform recently acquired by Groupon. With the click of a button, you can order food from more than 150 Orlando area restaurants.

All available at the touch of an app, simply select a restaurant, see what items are available for delivery and place and pay for your order. There is typically a $3.99 delivery fee, and some restaurants have a minimum order – but that’s small pennies compared to the convenience of local fare delivered to your door.

Since launching a year ago, OrderUp has delivered 28,000 chicken wings to hungry houses all over the city and have expanded to UCF, College Park, Baldwin Park and Winter Park. Laid end-to-end the 2,842 sushi rolls OrderUp has delivered could go around the Orlando Eye and still have enough to scale the height of the SunTrust building. In celebration of the delivery service’s birthday, we were invited to a progressive dinner in College Park featuring Jade Sushi & New Asian, The Peppy Bistro and Hubbly Bubbly Falafel Shop. With a vast variety of cuisine, you’re sure to find something for every craving in the app. Here’s some of our favorite eats you can enjoy with OrderUp:

I’ve never understood why most happy hours end at 6 p.m. Aren’t they designed for the working force? And these days between endless emails and I-4 traffic, who can make it anywhere by the time the clock strikes six? In a world of overpriced small plates and trendy cocktails it’s nice to find a spot that caters to the after-work crowd with some unique offerings. We recently visited RA Sushi to try out their happy hour and were delighted to find full size sushi rolls and a respectable craft beer and cocktail selection, all reasonably priced and tasty too.

Here’s what we tasted, sipped and enjoyed after a long day of work!

Rainbow Roll: A classic roll served in a colorful display for well under $10. {Score!}

unnamed (4)

Viva Las Vegas Roll: The star of the night, fully living up to its showy name. Crab and cream cheese rolled in rice and seaweed, tempura battered and topped with spicy tuna, crab mix and sliced lotus root, then it’s finished with sweet eel sauce.

unnamed (3)

Tuna Tataki: Perfect for sharing and for the novice sushi diner, this mild roll is perked up with some soy sauce and a touch of wasabi.

unnamed (2)

Blush Geisha: Cold lemonade mixed with Skyy Raspberry Vodka, Bols Black Raspberry Liqueur and lemon sour; tastes innocent enough, but sip this sly drink slowly – it’s strong!

unnamed

Lunetta Prosecco – Trentino, Italy: They say bubbles go with everything, and I couldn’t agree more. Enjoy a sip of Italy alongside a taste of Japan for a mere $8.

Now for the good stuff, the chance to win free food! We’re giving away two $50 gift cards to RA Sushi, all you have to do is comment on our Instagram post featuring this article and share your go-to sushi roll or happy hour drink. Cheers!

For 14 years Thornton Park residents have gathered to enjoy a taste of their neighborhood, located in the heart of Downtown Orlando, Thornton Park is unique in that it makes a large town feel tiny. And the liveliness and flavor of Thornton Park was on display last week as we attended the annual Taste of Thornton Park. For $30 locals enjoyed unlimited mixed drinks, small plates and beer and wine. Proceeds will benefit various community events as well as their beloved fountain at the intersection of Washington & Hyer. A foodie “hidden gem event” of sorts, A Taste of Thornton Park was an all out feast brimming with endless libations. Here’s what we enjoyed and recommend tasting the next time you’re in the neighborhood.

Dexter’s: My personal favorite of the evening with their warm shrimp and grits, pork belly sliders with cilantro, all washed down with a berry guava mimosa.

Black Bean Deli: An impressive presentation between their pork “pate” and deconstructed tamale. Props to this place for bringing their culinary creativity and tasty bites to the neighborhood.

Soco Thornton Park: You can’t go wrong with tacos. Especially tacos with rock shrimp. And BTW have you seen our Soco review? Click here for why you need to try their brunch.

Graffiti Junktion: Buffalo…..TOTS! If you know me, you know I’m buffalo obsessed and while buffalo tater tots may not be for everyone, I’m personally a huge fan. We’ll be back for more of this greasy appetizer. PS: Further proof of my buffalo obsession here.

Captu2re

Publix: Shout out to everyone’s favorite grocery store for bringing an ample wine selection. They even brought wines you’d find at a fine dining establishment. So thanks Publix, for bringing your A-game with ample vino.

310 Lakeside: The overall winners of taste for the evening, 310 brought out their culinary expertise for this event. Duck confit with a side of cucumber covered with caviar. #winning

Raw: Earning points for making kale drinkable….with vodka. Yep, their “Drunk” Green Goddess beverage was filled with pineapple, apple, kale and oh yes, vodka. A perfectly acceptable way to drink your produce if you ask me.

We’ll be back soon Thornton Park, we’re already looking forward to our next culinary adventure in this beloved neighborhood.

Dr. Phillips is know for its “Restaurant Row” and a slew of high-end restaurants, but there’s a different side to this area – one that’s full of local restaurants run by Chefs passionate about their trade. We recently sat down to a complete menu tasting compliments of Orlando My Way and Stefano’s Grill. Known to locals as “Chef Steff,” his culinary excellence was evident in each of the dishes brought before us.

Not only is Chef Steff comfortable in the kitchen, but also in front of the cameras. He has cooked for a wide-range of superstars on such shows as Fox’s “The Best Damn Sports Show Period”, ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown”, and The Food Network’s “Food Finds.”

An Italian inspired menu, Stefano’s serves up everything from extra large proteins to breaded vegetables. Infused with care and consideration, Chef Steff’s menu is one that’s worth tasting and experiencing first hand. Here’s a sampling of what you can expect to find at Stefano’s Grill.

Fried Zucchini: Thinly sliced, lightly floured, flash fried and finished with lemon. The light breading compliments the zucchini, this is one vegetable you’ll actually want to taste.

Stuffed Chicken Milanese: Topped with pure jumbo lump crab cake covered in a lemon butter caper sauce. A creamy land-meets sea dish that had everyone going back for seconds.

ChefSteff-083

Pasta Vodka: San Marzano tomatoes and a splash of cream. A bowl of fabulous carbs with a hint of spice and a creamy tomato sauce. One of my favorite entrees of the evening and a must try if you’re in a pasta mood.

FullSizeRender (2)

Tomahawk: Rumor has it locals receive a special offer on this gargantuan, typically pricey, cut of meat. A rich buttery steak equally impressive in presentation and flavor.

FullSizeRender (3)

Coconut Cake: Light, airy and pillow soft – this cake was a joy to taste.

ChefSteff-080

We enjoyed a slew of other dishes and desserts – almost too many to count! An overall delightful evening and one that has our taste buds wanting more of this Italian goodness.
