Boasting over 100 televisions and Florida roots, Duffy’s Sports Grill serves up freshly prepared ingredients and a menu for everyone’s palate in your party.  Signature favorites include their Hangover Burger, All American Bloody Mary (served with a burger slider) and 15 dishes containing fewer than 580 calories.  Even better Duffy’s offers 2-for-1 drinks all day, every day, on everything from the bar, including top-shelf cocktails, premium wine and bottled beer. Yep, that even includes their Ultimate Patron Margarita.

Also impressive is the lively atmosphere. On a Wednesday night the restaurant was full and buzzing with sports enthusiasts. The space is well lit, clean and full of knowledgeable, friendly servers – a far cry from most sports bars in town.  We enjoyed a wide range of menu items last night, here’s some of our favorite dishes and drinks from Duffy’s Sports Grill.

  • Ultimate Patrón Margarita – Rimmed with the proper amount of salt and filled with Patrón Silver, Triple Sec, fresh lime juice and Patrón Citrónge. Yep, you get two for $14.00!
  • Cotton Candy Cosmopolitan – Served with real cotton candy, Pinnacle County Fair Cotton Vodka, cranberry juice and fresh lime juice. Two for $10.00
  • Pineapple Mojito – Exceptionally sweet and served with Cruzan Citrus, Fresh Golden Ripe Pineapple, Fresh Lime, Mint and uniquely garnished with rock candy Two for $8.00.
  • All-American Bloody Mary -Made with Tito’s vodka and dramatically garnished with a bacon cheeseburger slider. Have your cake and eat it too, $7.00.
  • Firecracker Shrimp – A clever presentation, these tender, crispy shrimp are tossed in a creamy yet spicy sauce, $9.99.
  • Korean Beef Tenderloin Mini Tacos – On the spicier side, but full of flavor and topped with cilantro-onion relish and a chile garlic sauce, $7.00.
  • Freshly Made Guacamole – Creamy and full of fresh avocado chunks, this guacamole is made fresh to order in-house and served with salted tortilla chips, $8.99.
  • Jumbo Wings – Choose between 10 sauces ranging from Honey Garlic to Atomic. The plump, juicy oversized wings come hand-breaded or “naked”, tossed in your choice of sauce with blue cheese and celery. Ten wings for $10.99.
  • The Hangover Burger – Farm fresh sunny side up egg, pepper crusted bacon and two slices of American cheese wedged between a fluffy bun with sesame seeds. All burgers are made with 100% Certified Angus Beef, a cut above USDA Choice. This burger is served with fries and you can even substitute your bun for a Pretzel Roll, $11.99.
  • Crunchy Fried Cheesecake – Our favorite dessert of the evening, a fried creamy cheesecake served with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, Ghirardelli caramel sauce and whipped cream. Between the Ghiradelli and fried goodness you’ll forever compare this dessert to “normal” cheesecakes, $5.99.

Nabbing a weekend reservation at Rocco’s Tacos is nearly impossible, but after one visit, it’s easy to understand why their tables are full. Imagined by owner Rocco Mangel, this taco and tequila bar brings a Mexican dining experience to life through tequilas, music and tasty tacos.

With over 250 varieties of tequila, guacamole prepared tableside and Molcajetes, this menu has something for every palate. I’m still craving a sangria and their Molcajete Carne, authentic fajitas baked and served in a massive lava rock bowl from Mexico. Served with flour tortillas, lettuce, pico de gallo, cotija cheese (my favorite), guacamole, sour cream, skirt steak, chicken, chorizo, chile rajas and tequila. Phew. This fed us for days after our Rocco’s Tacos visit and is hands down the most unique Mexican dish I’ve ever tasted. The Molcajete Carne is  really unfair to other Mexican entrees because your average steak fajitas just can’t compare to this creation.

If you’re looking for an excuse to dine out on a weekday, their Taco & Tequila Tuesdays features all you-can-eat tacos including chicken, pork, steak, beef, mushroom, shrimp or mahi tacos, each with a handful of fixings, for only $14.95 per person. Top off your tacos with their $5 tequila drinks, $15 margarita pitchers, $3 Mexican beers and $6 Tito’s vodka drinks. Even better, during October, Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar will donate a percentage of their Taco Tuesday sales to breast cancer research via Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Happy Hour never looked so good!

Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar is located at 7468 West Sand Lake Road, Orlando, FL 32819 and roccostacos.com.

Last night we grazed at Orlando’s Taste of the Nation, if you’ve never been to this event you MUST go next year! As food lovers, there’s nothing better than walking into a massive room filled with culinary delights to sample at your leisure.

Thirty five leading chefs and restaurants, including TWO James Beard Foundation Award semi-finalists, served up fabulous plates during last night’s event. Even better, all proceeds benefit Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger. Just $50 provides a week of nutritious meals to 34 homeless children, so each ticket purchased made a significant impact! Local beneficiaries include Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

After hours of sampling dishes from the area’s finest Chefs, we rolled ourselves out of the Marriott. Here’s a few of our favorite dishes from the night, can’t wait to visit these Chefs in restaurant!

  • Cafe Tu Tu Tango: Korean Marinated Confit of Chicken with Grilled Buttermilk Cornbread and Sambar Butter. Hello delicious, making a reservation here asap.
  • Capa at Four Seasons Resort Orlando: Braised Spanish Octopus, Marinated in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Garlic, Thyme and Chili. I passed on the eight legged creature, but my husband is still raving about the dish.
  • Empress Sissi Cake & Pastry Specialties: Creme Brulee Cheesecake. Creamy, sugary goodness mixed into a melty cheesecake. Empress Sissi, who are you and where can we taste more of your fabulous desserts?!
  • LongHorn Steakhouse: Slow & Low” Braised Short Ribs, Horseradish Whipped Potato, Crispy Shiitake Mushrooms, Port Wine Braising Liquid and Petit Herbs. Fabulous! PS: have you tasted their new Peak Season menu?
  • Sea World Orlando: Sustainable Ahi Tuna and Halibut, cold-infused with Citrus Vodka and Coconut Rum over a Wakame Salad. The dry ice presentation was a feast for the eyes too! See below for a snapshot of their preparation.
  • Sushi Pop Restaurant: Gangnam Style Roll (Haha) Salmon Tartare topped with Local White Fish, Yang Yum Jung Sauce and Waterkist Farm Sprouts. Our search for Orlando’s best sushi is over, you win Sushi Pop! Where have you been hiding all this time?

Cue the food hangover, glad it’s Sunday so we can sit on the sofa in sweatpants. Thank you Orlando Taste of the Nation for the invitation, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening! If you missed out this year, make plans to be there in 2015!

With a zillion burger chains popping up daily everywhere, I find it hard to get excited about a new “burger boutique.” I’ve pretty much avoided them all together because what’s so special about a $15 burger anymore? But…….Atlanta’s FLIP Burger rapidly changed my mind about gourmet burgers.

Located in the up-and-coming Westside area in Atlanta, Richard Blais’ FLIP Burger, is definitely worth a visit if you are in the peach state. The vibe at FLIP is funky and uber modern, but that’s part of what makes this burger joint memorable – it’s also full service which is a major plus.

Deciding what to order was difficult – thank goodness for the burger AND appetizer trio. My BFF ordered the Southern burger and self admittedly “inhaled” her meal. She really did. Anyways, The burger trio was uhhhmazing and featured a miniature burger sampler: rBQ, Butcher’s Cut and Fried Chicken. The Butcher’s Cut was the tastiest with beef, crumbled bleu cheese, caramelized onions, soy truffle vinaigrette, frisée, pickled shallots and red wine jam. The rBQ with beef and pulled brisket was dry, but the Fried Chicken with b+b pickles and spicy Duke’s mayo gives Chick-fil-A a run for their money.

The Fry Side Sampler was equally tasty with Beef Fat French Fries, Sweet Potato Tots and Vodka Battered Onion Rings. The Beef Fat French Fries with smoked mayo and ketchup definitely take the win over the other two in the trio. The Sweet Potato Tots with coffee BBQ spice and blue cheese dressing will completely erase all bad memories you have of tots and school cafeterias. Needless to say, our jeans were getting a tad uncomfortable at this point, but I’m determined to return for one of their world famous Krispy Kreme milkshakes!

Next time you’re passing through Atlanta be sure to stop by FLIP Buger. Who knows, Chef Blais himself might even be in the kitchen! Hey, it’s always a small possibility. Stay tuned for part two of Spork Atlanta featuring Jeni’s Ice Cream.
